Just for fun!

A newer addition to the allure of Detroit is the "famed" Campus Martius Park. I would love to give you a history lesson but it won't be good. I do know that on the grounds of Campus Martius (meaning "Military ground") is the "Point of Origin" from which Judge Woodward decided the city of Detroit would be laid out. The street I live on also happens to be named Woodward and my Loft happens to be two blocks from said park. Anyhoo, click the links if you're interested in the history of the Park or what's happening in the park currently and in the future. The point of this post is to say that last weekend they were putting on one of the Fourth Friday's with Ford series shows and we went because, well, it's two blocks away. The entertainers for the evening were The Bacon Brothers headlining for Carlene Carter. I have heard of the Bacon Brothers (Kevin Bacon *Think Jack from Will and Grace* ~DUH!~ heh.) but I have never heard that they sing. As we approached we saw vans for the local Country Music station and if you know me you know I'm not fond of the country music genre but despite the fact, we were troopers and headed forward. We stuck around long enough for Jane to take these pictures:


Can you see the enthusiasm on my face? :P This didn't hold our attention long until we decided to venture further. We checked out some of the finer restaurants in the area and also poked our heads into a few "hole in the wall" dives until we eventually planted ourselves at one of Jane's old favorites "The Detroiter Bar". it was nice and relaxing for a Friday end-of-the-work-week reprieve. Eventually we headed home which was no small feat since the People Mover is undergoing some track repairs until August 18 and Jane has a broken foot! Oh, did I mention that the DPM goes right past our window every 4 minutes when it's in service? Pretty cool despite the fact it only goes in a circle (for those of you not familiar with the city!)

This leads me to yet ANOTHER funny happening since we moved almost a month ago. Friday was fun followed by Saturday's excitement which was scary but hilarious! We had some visitors over for the afternoon and out of somewhere we hear this obnoxiously LOUD siren-type noise! After staring at one another for a few seconds and some investigation we realized it was the fire alarm going off! Come to find out the entire building is wired together and if one alarm is set off the entire building is warned! That helps me breathe a sigh of releif because I'm severly afraid of fire! We didn't know if we should take it seriously at first because we didn't see any smoke or smell any fire...until we heard the fire trucks!! We scurried around to find the cat carriers and get everything turned off in case we'd be gone for awhile (or for good!) I couldn't find Lucky and I was freaking and Jane couldn't find the carrier for her cat, Bert! I finally found Lucky under my bed and Jane put Bert in her gym bag~ LOL~ That cat is like 20 years old but he was SO good! We gathered up all of the children and animals and headed down. Jane's sister had her camera and snapped this cute picture! You can also see Jane's broken foot in this photo...

After we checked out the building and were assured by the DFD that there was no fire, only a false alarm in the Athlete's Foot sneaker store on the bottom floor, we went over to the Creperie and bought some Crepe's to enjoy after our exciting afternoon! The evening ended with a night out on the town with our old Eastside neighbors, The McNary's at the Anchor Bar. It's all good in the D. :)
